Service

Test and Tag

Before and after repairing your appliance I will perform basic safety checks on your appliance. This is required by law to keep you safe. I will tag your machine on its cord to certify it as safe to be connected to a 230v supply.

Businesses require this check to be done annually to keep their workers safe. In the case of a workshop with corded tools with high use this needs to be done every six months.

I offer this service at a rate of $50 per hour plus callout fee, plus $1.50 per item.

Residual Current Devices

Or RCDs are required by law to be installed at your switchboard in all new builds and when an electrician adds or replaces a circuit in your home. These devices prevent electric shock by detecting current going where it shouldn’t and isolate the power.

If your home does not have RCDs, and an appliance of yours fails and the frame of your appliance is metal and correctly earthed your circuit breaker should trip. However if it is not correctly earthed then your run the risk of electric shock!

Electrical testing will ensure the device does not present a safety risk to the user by ensuring that it is correctly earthed and has good insulation between the power circuit and any exposed metal.

Your electrician is responsible for ensuring power outlets are safe. As a home owner you are allowed to replace your own end point outlets but you must get them tested by an electrician afterwards. Don’t run the risk or electrocution or fire – always use a licensed electrician.
